Can I even tell you how giggly I would be to walk down the street talking on this. There are not even WORDS. (T-minus 7 days. >.> ) |

Why is it that when someone posts to a community "God, this jerkface I had to deal with today totally (didn't tip/didn't help an old lady across the street/kicked puppies)!" There's always someone who has to respond with great detail about how THEY (always tip/always help old ladies across the street/never kick puppies)? |

YAY The exam that was supposed to be on basic trig, functions and logarithms? Half trig, half algebraic functions, and nary a logarithm in sight. Glory day. Yes, I love trig. Trig is what causes me to place higher than I should on math placement tests. Geometry is awesome too. Algebra is fine. But precalc is one of the two classes I failed in high school. (The other was physics. My father, who taught high school physics for seventeen years, was not pleased.) ETA: HOLY FUCK what is wrong with my math instructor. He made us spend half the class period doing problems with SLIDE RULES. This is not relevant to anything else in the class, plus the guy is absolutely inept at explaining anything, so after he explained how to use the slide rule to the class, he then had to go around and try to explain it to each group individually because he wasn't making any damn sense to anyone. |

Productive day :) At the end of day one of Christmas Baking, I have approximately: -85 peanut butter cookies (some with chocolate, some without) -45 pumpkin spice cookies -30 sugar cookies -1 tray of dark chocolate mint fudge (hopefully, if it sets properly) -1 tray of milk chocolate kahlua fudge (hopefully ditto) -about half a pound of peppermint bark Still to go, between tomorrow and next weekend: -Brownie bites -Gingerbread mini-muffins -Mint chip cookies -Possibly chocolate cookies? Dunno for sure. -Probably another batch of peppermint bark. ... and I only have five goodie-boxes to make up. Six, if I do one for my boss, which I may well. |

**WARNING: STUPIDLY CORNY JOKE AHEAD.** Dan tells me that Farmville has Gingerbread Arches! And hey, look, Holly Arches! Me: !!! *clicks on little buy-stuff link* Aww, man. The Holly arches cost coins, but the Ginger arches cost farmbucks, and I don't have enough. I was going to buy a Ginger Arch and put it next to a Holly Arch, and then reJoyce! Dan: .... that is HORRIBLE. Me: That was AWESOME. So I just bought the Holly arch and put it next to my reindeers. ETA:Dan: HORRIBLE. Me: SO SO AWESOME. ReJoyce!! |

I read a biography of Jim Morrison today. First, I'm not entirely sure why or how it ended up on my library hold list. I'm not a fan; in fact, I'm pretty sure the closest I come to having heard a Doors song is the cover of "People Are Strange" by Echo and the Bunnymen off the Lost Boys soundtrack. Second, after reading it, some people's behavior seriously appalls me. Ugh. |

Bob bless my winter quarter history instructor (who's name, amusingly, is Bob). I do not wish to pay $90 for my textbook, so at Joyce's recommendation, I emailed him to ask about the feasiblity of using an older edition of the book, which I could find on Amazon for $10 including shipping. He replied: Right on. Get the cheaper text.Yay! |

The downside to classical music and the internet: If I type So what's that one song that goes "bum bum bum, bum bum bum, bum bum bum, bah di bah di bah?" People are not likely to know what the muffins I'm talking about. In this particular situation, I can help out a little by saying that I'm pretty sure it's from The Nutcracker, but that's not always the case :) I also have a mental image of it being played over a scene of like ... some little kid sneaking downstairs on Christmas Eve and seeing Santa, maybe? Possibly from a commercial, only it'd be from at least ten years ago, as I pretty much haven't watched network/cable TV since then. |

So. Right now, with one regular exam and the final to go, my calculations say I'm holding a 4.0 by literally 0.03%. I don't think I can keep it, alas. I'd have to get a 95 average on both the remaining tests. It'll be close - I've gotten 92 and change on the first two. If I can maintain that, I'll come out of here with a 93.8 overall, a high 3.5. (The grading scale on the syllabus says 95 for a 4.0 and 90 for a 3.5, I dunno if there's an interim point.) And considering my history with math? I will so take that. :P |

Dear persons possessing more graphic talent than I, I need two LJ icons -- one that says "Oh, John Ringo, no!" and one that says "SHUT UP! Sir Ian McKellen is talking." |

Good: I finished knitting my dad's hat. Bad: I'm 99% certain it's too small, so here we go again. Good: At least it only took about four or five hours last time. |

Yesterday: I spent most of the day finishing up the blankie of loveliness that I posted, while watching a marathon of the special features on the Lord of the Rings extended disc sets. (I still have about two and a half discs worth of features to get through.) In addition, we had a quite tasty dinner. ( menu and commentary )I did not, amazingly, make a dessert. However, at some point probably this weekend, there will be the beginnings of Christmas baking. Experiments with fudge and peppermint bark, probably at least a couple different kinds of cookies, we'll see what else if anything. Today: I went to Target, though not until after sunrise. It was remarkably painless. I came away with gifts for the podling, my sister, my sister-in-law, and a handful of stocking stuffers for those people for whom I am stuffing stockings. I think at this point the only people I haven't either planned, started, or acquired a gift for are my mom and Dan's dad, both of whom are hard to shop for. (My mom told me where she'd like a gift card to, if I go that route, but I'd prefer not to.) On top of that, all the gifts that I have thus far acquired are wrapped and the two stockings are mostly stuffed, and should be done by the end of the day. I'll have boxes going four, possibly five ways this year, so I need to work on acquiring shipping boxes and probably more tins/containers for the yummies that people are getting to make up for my skint Christmas budget. |
